Praised by the daily paper «Repubblica» for his “impeccable and mimetic piano style” (Angelo Foletto), Roberto Cominati won first prize and the International Piano Competition “Alfredo Casella” in Naples in 1991. In 1993 he came to the attention of critics and of the main international concert halls thanks to the first prize awarded him at the “Ferruccio Busoni” competition in Bozen. In 1999 he won the “Jaques Stehman” audience award from Belgian TV and from French television channel TV5 within the “Reine Elisabeth” Competition in Brussels.In Italy he is often invited by prestigious musical institutions like the Teatro alla Scala, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, the Accademia Chigiana di Siena, the Festival Pianistico di Brescia e Bergamo, and the Festival dei Due Mondi di Spoleto.
Abroad, he has performer at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Salzburg Festival, the Gasteig in Munich, the Monnaie in Brussels, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Kennedy Center in Washington, as well as in England, Belgium, Holland, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Finland, Japan, and Australia.
Some of the conductors he has worked with include Sir Simon Rattle, Daniele Gatti, Andrej Borejko, Leon Fleisher, Daniel Harding, Yuri Ahronovitch, David Robertson, Mikhail Pletnev, Alexander Lazarev, Andrea Battistoni, Michele Mariotti, Juraj Valčuha, Sascha Goetzel, and Eliahu Inbal.
In recent Seasons he has performed at the Bratislava Festival, in Turin with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai conducted by Valčuha, in Palermo with the Orchestra del Teatro Massimo, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and again in Milan with the Orchestra Sinfonica Giuseppe Verdi, in New York with the New York Chamber Orchestra, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam within the prestigious Meesterpianisten concert series, and in Bologna with the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale conducted by Michele Mariotti.
Some of his 2019/2020 engagements include concerts with the Haydn Orchestra, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra (a new commission for the “Contemporary Classics’ Composers Festival”), with the Orchestra Filarmonica di Torino, the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Filarmonica Toscanini, and a concert recital at the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli.
He will also be performing a chamber music concert in a trio at the Accademia Filarmonica Romana.
He is about to complete the recording of Claude Debussy’s complete piano works under Decca (the first two albums being already available). Some of his previous recordings include his first Emi CD and the complete piano works by Ravel released by “Amadeus”.
